Shaping a New Reality – Towards a multisectoral response: A National Consultation on Women living with HIV/AIDS (December 2004).
The second National Consultation was organized in New Delhi by PWN+ with support from NACO, UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNIFEM, UNDP, UNODC, and INP+, from 7-9 December 2004. This Consultation brought together over 150 WLHA from around 16 states in India, and focussed on the need for a multisectoral response to HIV, with specific reference to Government departments and Ministries. A declaration by women living with HIV was brought out at the end of the Consultation.


 


Legal literacy workshops for women living with HIV (2002 – 2004)
These workshops were organized to create awareness among women living with HIV about their rights, and existing laws and policies, enabling them to empower themselves and other women to fight against discrimination, and also to provide a space for WLHA to share their legal problems.

PWN+ has organized legal literacy workshops in the states of Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat, with support from UNIFEM, and in 5 districts of Tamilnadu – Namakkal, Erode, Trichy, Perambalur and Theni, with support from TNSACS – UNDP programme.
These workshops was conducted as a follow-up to the recommendations on Law and human rights which emerged from the National Women’s Consultation on women living with HIV / AIDS during the month of March 2002.

Positive Faces and Voices - National Consultation on women living with HIV (2002)
The first National consultation organized in March 2002 by PWN+ with support from UNAIDS, UNIFEM, UNDP in Chennai focussed on developing a mandate to effectively address and focus on issues of WLHA. The various programmes organized by PWN+ after March 2002 therefore emerged from the first National consultation of women living with HIV, where certain specific recommendations were brought out. The activities of the network from that time till date have been to a large extent based on these recommendations.




 

Public hearings on ‘Addressing concerns of Women living with HIV’ in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu (2004) Organized by Positive Women Network and National Commission for Women
The National commission for Women, New Delhi called for organizing public hearings for women living with HIV to express their issues to the society. These hearings were conducted as a result of the documentation on issues of WLHA ‘positive speaking’, a study done by PWN+ and CFAR, which brought out the human rights violations of WLHA. Public hearings in the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala were organized with the NCW in the months of January, February and April 2004. The recommendations of the hearings were submitted to the NCW for dissemination.
